Day 04 :
Shimla - Narkanda - Rampur -
Sarahan (By road - 5 hours drive)
Morning visit the Viceregal Lodge to witness the British
colonial building and culture and also the Himachal. Later we
drive 180 km to Sarahan, via Narkanda, a town with a collection
of corrugated-iron and timber houses, chai (tea) stalls, and
wayside dhabas (eateries), 65 km northeast of Shimla. Once over
the pass at Narkanda, the highway winds steadily down the south
side of the Sutlej Valley, passing through several fragrant
stands of deodar (cedar) and pine forests, into a V-shaped
defile towards Rampur, formerly the capital of the princely
state of Bhushair. This is beautiful countryside with
spectacular views of snow covered Himalayan ranges and unspoiled
nature. Sarahan, the erstwhile summer capital of the Bhushair
Rajas, sits astride a 2000-meter ledge above the River Sutlej,
near the Shimla-Kinnaur border. Set against a spectacular
backdrop, the village harbors one of the northwestern Himalaya's
most exotic spectacles - the twin wooden pagodas of the
gilt-pinnacled Bhima Kali temple.
The Bhima Kali is the most majestic of the
few early timber temples left in the Sutlej Valley - an area
renowned for its unusual tradition of housing holy shrines on
raised wooden platforms. Although most of the structure dates
from early this century, parts are more than eight hundred years
old. Overnight at the Tourist Bungalow.

dense vegetation on mildly sloping mountains. The houses in this
village rise from the river, one on top of the other with doors
decorated with horns of mountain goats. The village also has a
Hindu Temple built next to a Buddhist Monastery. Overnight at a
