3.Sikkim Goechala-Dzongri-Nambu (
Singalila Trek New Route)
Day 01: Trek to Sachen (2200m) about 6
hrs walk. Trek starts at Yuksom. The trail undulates through
moss laden forests of oak, chestnut, pine, firs, magnolia and
rhododendron. It is really a botanist paradise. Here in this
forest hundreds of varieties of wild orchids view for attention
with a similar number of different kinds of birds and
butterflies. Some of the animals that are found at various
altitudes on this trail are the Himalayan brown bear, black
bear, barking and musk deer, sambar, marble cat, Tibetan
antelope, wild goats and red pandas. The trail crosses 2 side
streams over sturdy wooden bridges and then to Sachen for lunch.
After lunch rest. O/N camp.
Day 02:
Trek to Tshoka (3005m) about
3-4 hrs walk. Slowly descend through the dense forest and cross
the Prekchu river. Then from the Prek Chu river 2-3 hrs steep
ascent up the opposite bank. As throughout the whole trek,
trails are with plenty of switchbacks. En route to Bakhim you
are likely to encounter herders with their yaks and cows. Lunch
at Bakhim. After lunch walk for about an hour or so from Bakhim
to reach Tshoka. Tsokha is the last Tibetan village passed on
this trail. The local habitants only about 17-20 Tibetan people.
This settlement was donated by the late Chogyal Palden Thendup
Namgyal since 1967. Upon arrival at Tshoka check in to campsite.
O/N camp.
Day 03:
Trek to Phedang (3550m) about 4-5
hrs walk. After Tshoka the hike is nothing short of magical.
From here the trail ascends to a picturesque spot, Phedang
Meadow passing through dense rhododendron forest. Lunch will be
served at Phedang. After lunch rest. O/N camp |

Day 04:
Trek to Thangsing (3850m)
about 5-6 hrs. This day the trail is gradual till Kokchurung
with plenty of minor ups and downs, passing through small
streams, dense rhododendron and silver fir forest. Say after
about 3-4 hrs walk you reach Kokchurung for lunch. Then cross
the Prekchu river and the trail is gradual climb till Thangsing
which takes about 1.5 hrs walk. O/N camp
Day 05:
Trek to Lamini (4100m) about 3
hrs. The trail is slight climb and it passes along the left
banks of the Prekchu river. On the way you see the herds of Yaks
grazing on the meadows. After lunch visit the Samiti Lake and
back. O/N camp.
Day 06:
Trek Lamini – Samiti Lake
(4250m) – Goechala (4950m)– Lamini – Thangsing. Wake-up early in
the morning at around 3:30 AM and after tea walk up to Goechala.
There will be packed breakfast. The trail is steep and passes
through the moraines of Mt. Pandim. From the view point you
climb down and walk through the flat and sandy area of Zemathang
and then slowly climb up to Goechala pass which takes about 4
hrs. From here you can get the close view of the massive Mt.
Khangchendzonga 8585m. After a while trek back to Samiti and
then to Lamini which takes around 2-3 hrs. After lunch late
lunch trek back to Thangsing. O/N camp .
Day 07:
Trek to Dzongri (4030m) 4-5
hrs. Follow the same route till Kokchurung and from there steep
climb begins which takes about 3-4 hrs walk till Dzongri. Camp
at Doring a beautiful wide meadow at the foot hill of Black
Kabur peak. O/N camp.
Day 08: A day at Dzongri. Wake-up tea
at 4 am and climb Dzongri peak (one hour) gaining 200m for an
unforgettable close up view of the Kangchenjunga massif and
other Himalayan peaks like Kabru Dome, Kabru North, Kabru South,
Pandim, Talung, Kokthang, Narsing, etc. Walk back to camp for
breakfast. Rest of the day at leisure. O/N camp .
Day 09:
Trek to Pangding (about 4340m)
6-7 hrs. The trail descends for an hour or two till Bikbari and
cross the BIkbari river, then steep climb for about 3.5 hrs it
passes through the dense rhododendron bushes. O/N camp.
Day 10: Trek to Gomathang (3725m)
about 5-6 hrs. The trail descends for about 4.5 hrs passing
through the dense rhododendron shrubs. Camp by the banks of
Gomathang river. O/N camp.
Day 11:
Trek to Dafey Bhir Meadow
(4410m) - Lampokhari about 5-6 hrs. Steep climb for about 4 hrs
till Dafey Bhir pass and after that descend down for about 1 hr.
passing through dense rhododendron shrubs. Afternoon visit the
beautiful Lampokhari Lake near by. O/N camp.
Day 12:
Trek to Sikkim Megu (4100m)
4-5 hrs. Early morning if the weather is clear climb for about
half an hour to the view point to get the spectacular view of
Mt. Everest, Makhalu and Lotse and walk back to camp for
breakfast. After that the trail is gradual till the campsite.
O/N camp.
Day 13: Trek to
Yambung (3750m) about
5-6 hrs. The trail is gradual down hill passing through the
rhododendron bushes and pine trees. O/N camp.
Day 14:
Trek to Chongri (2800m) 4-5
hrs. The trail is steep down hill for about 4 hrs passing
through the dense mixed forest. Cross the Rimbik river and
gradual walk for about 1 hr takes you to the campsite (small
local village). O/N camp
Day 15: Trek to Chuzyam (2400m) 4-5
hrs.gradual down hill walk for about 3-4 hrs passing through the
scattered local villages. O/N camp .
Day 16:
Trek to Nambu (1900m) 4-5 hrs.
